When I first downloaded Fallout 3 and tried to play, I would get past a window with steam showing me an activation code, and then the game would pop up. It said Play, Options, Data Files, Tech Support, Exit. When I pressed play the window would go away and nothing would happen, the game wouldn't boot. I also have Fallout New Vegas Ultimate Edition and it does not do the same thing, it actually works. I thought it was probably a problem with the installation, so I uninstalled it and reinstalled it. Now all that comes up when I click play is a error message saying 'The ordinal 42 could not be located in the dynamic link library C:WindowsSYSTEM32xlive.dll.' It is really frustrating as I just bought a new computer that I know can run it, but it keeps crashing. It might be that it isn't compatible with windows 8 but other people have gotten it to work. If anyone can help me resolve this issue so I can get back to playing my favorite game, it would be MUCH appreciated.
